Over the River and through the Moorland

We had a hearty breakfast and got going at 9:00 AM, a long day ahead of us – 14 miles.

The first part was a steady uphill, Looking back at Rothbury

Kept heading uphill, through fields and crossing fences.

Entered the Northumberland National Park

Hard to see the path in some of the fields

Happy to see a way markers and follow the direction of the arrows

Today, some cows but mostly sheep, had to watch where we stepped.

Past some archeological features from the Neolithic period, possibly as much as 5000 years old.

Crossing the moor

Low shrubs and not much else

Small stream crossing

The highest point on St Oswald’s Way, marked by a cairn

More moorland

Back into the woods

Long day, we finished at 4:20 PM, the dogs (our feet) are tired.

Tomorrow, only 12 miles!
