September 1 – Grassington to Hubberholme

Whew – 12 miles, took us 7 hours with breaks. Light rain most of the day – we put on rain gear after a short bit on the trail and kept in on. The first six miles were hilly, tough slog. We knew we were in for a long day so we fortified ourselves at breakfast.

Mare’s breakfast- poached egg, vegetarian sausage, hash browns, mushrooms, tomato and croissant
And for me – scrambled eggs, vegetarian sausage, beans, mushrooms, tomato, hash browns and croissant.
Easy to follow trail between stone fences

One of countless fence crossings
Big sky of the Dales
Checking the route notes, the GPS downloads have really helped
Tea, latte and a rascal (scone like biscuit) break in Kettleworth after six miles walking
Back on the trail
Walking and walking
Stream crossings
Finally our stopping point
The George Inn – lodging and dinner
For the “All Creatues Great and Small” show the church where James and Helen were married
Our reward – 1/2 pints of beer

Then a quick shower before heading to dinner. Locals on the trail told us how good the food was and to try the haddock and mustard pie, boy were they right.

The pie, mashed potatoes, broccoli, carrots, cabbage and gravy. The George inn is great and Ed, the owner, is fantastic.
