Carlisle

We spent the day in Carlisle.

First was Carlisle Castle to see the Poppies Weeping Window sculpture. It’s from the ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas Of Red’ poppies exhibition at the Tower of London.

2018 marks the centenary of the end of the First World War.

This display had a fraction of the total poppies made.

The installation at the Tower of London had 888,246 ceramic red poppies, each representing a British or Colonial solider killed in WWI.

Then we toured the Carlisle Cathedral, a short walk from the castle.

Then a quick lunch, vegetable soup and drinks at John Watts Cafe/ Coffee Shop.

Great coffee shop, huge selection of coffees and teas

Tomorrow, we catch the bus to Keswick in the Lakes District where we will stay for 3 nights.
