Arrived on Holy Island

At 9:30 AM, we flagged down the 477 Border Bus taking us from the mainland across the causeway to Holy Island. We dropped our bags at the Ship Inn and headed out to explore the Island.

A chilly and foggy day (pea soup).

The Priory dates back to 600s AD at this location. These remains are from a priory dating from 1100s on the same location.

Windy and low tide

Mare bundled up in hat and gloves.

Dinner at the Manor House Hotel, one of three places open after 3:00 PM. Tuna sandwich with cup of soup (pea soup).

Most of the shops and cafes close with the tide schedule, allows the workers to get back to the mainland before the tide covers the road.

Tomorrow’s safe crossing times are 7:25 AM till 2:15 PM. Breakfast time starts at 8:30 AM and we want to be walking by 9:30 so hopefully we are halfway across the causeway before the tide starts coming back in. We don’t want to be among those people that have to take shelter in one of the rescue houses (I will get a picture tomorrow as we walk by).

Walking to Belford tomorrow, a 12 mile day.
